For over 20 years Rivercourt has been operating a Night Shelter service, for the organisation Glass Door, feeding up to 80 guests and offering a safe place to sleep for about 40 people facing homelessness.
In June of 2023, Glass Door changed their operating policy from offering mixed gender shelters to offering seperate women only and men only shelters. Glass Door decided that Rivercourt would be for women only. Whilst Rivercourt fully understands and supports the principle of a women only shelter, the decision represents a very big change for Rivercourt and the volunteers. In particular the change would mean a very reduced role for the male volunteers and increase the workload for the women volunteers.
Offering support to homeless and vulnerable people is a core part of the mission of Rivercourt Methodist Church. It was decided therefore to offer a mixed gender dinner-only service on Sunday evenings in the winter months, which the Church believes will complement the work of Glass Door in the Borough. This service is called ‘Sunday Suppers’ and this year runs from 20th October 2024 to the end of April 2025.
Every Sunday, guests will be given a nutritious hot meal. Vegetarian/vegan options will be available.
Tea and coffee will be served from 6.30pm with supper at 7.30pm. No advance registration is required. A capped number of tickets will be distributed to our guests before the doors open.
The service is supported by Rivercourt Methodist Church and St Peters Church, City Harvest London and LBH&F.
Sunday Suppers became a registered charity in November 2024.
Registered charity number 1210994.
